Enclosure DacBox S60-A - Overview
The DacBox S60-A enclosure is designed for compact DIY audio projects, such as DACs and headphone amplifier builds, where size efficiency and mechanical stability are important. Overall dimensions are 170 × 265 × 60 mm, excluding the front panel. It fully accommodates the provided DAC and PSU boards.
The enclosure is built from precision-cut metal sheet parts made from 1 and 2 mm metal sheet. Base and mounting corners use 2 mm thickness to improve mechanical strength in key load-bearing areas. This combination provides a good balance between durability and ease of assembly.
The front panel is modular and can be customized depending on the project requirements or aesthetic preferences. It can be made from plexiglass for a modern transparent look, wood for a more classic hi-fi style, or aluminium for a uniform industrial design. This flexibility allows the enclosure to adapt to different DIY audio concepts. Please note that four mounting corners are required per enclosure.
Both OLED displays 0.96" and 1.3" are supported.
Overall, the design focuses on simplicity, modularity, and adaptability, making it suitable for hobbyists who want a reliable enclosure platform for audio electronics projects.
External Elements
The enclosure requires several external hardware elements to support typical DAC functionality and usability. These include four bottom-mounted feet (mounting holes 4.5 mm for standard M4 screws), a pair of RCA output connectors (panel cutout diameter 11 mm each), and optionally a coaxial RCA input (panel cutout diameter 11 mm). A cutout for a Toslink optical connector is also provided.
Power is supplied via a standard IEC-style AC inlet (220 V with ground), installed in a 20 × 28 mm rectangular cutout. If the selected inlet includes a built-in EMI filter and slightly exceeds the panel opening, it can be mounted from the inside of the enclosure.
The design also supports panel-mount toggle switches with a standard 6 mm mounting hole. Depending on the application, different switch types can be used, including ON–ON, OFF–(ON), and (ON)–OFF–(ON) configurations. The ON–ON type is typically used for power control, while momentary types such as OFF–(ON) can be used for auxiliary functions, for example volume up/down control.
Additionally, ventilation slots are provided in the top cover to improve thermal performance. These openings provide passive cooling for internal components such as the power supply unit (PSU) and DAC modules, helping maintain reliable operation under typical working conditions.
